this sound in particular was achieved with
spectrasonics' trilian, but basically any upright bass sound
will do. take a look at some different VSTs and decide,
which one you like best.

i'd love to actually record any instrument for real,
if only it wasn't that expensive :D

I like this, although the mix could be better, seems too loud/compressed. I would do something about the vocal track, using copyrighted samples is against the rules and might get you banned. To be honest, the vocal track only takes away from the song itself anyway :p

Well I've worked quite a lot already on that mix, tried to give it a little Periphery-ish sound, hence the heavy compression and loudness. And about the vocal track, I know it is copyrighted but all the other work is mine, I'm just doing like quite a lot of artists on YouTube for instance, who don't seem to have any copyright issues. And I feel that the vocals work waaay better pike they are right now. Screamed hiphop vocals are just... Ugh. Thanks a lot for the review, stay tuned: more to come soon! :)

I clicked on this song then minimized the window to listen to it while working on another computer, my screen saver kicked on while I enjoyed it and after awhile I realized this music was coming from newgrounds.. I thought it was something in my music collection on shuffle. Very nicely done, look forward to hearing it when it's complete.

Well, i'm not too keen on the sounds used. The drums are kinda weak throughout. My suggestion would be to try using a noisegate on the lead, a bitcrusher on the drums with a more consistent beat, and fix the mix (by default, the fruity limiter on the master channel is louder than it should be, right click the gain knob and click reset if you haven't tried that already.) just my thoughts..

It doesn't have that filthy dubstuff wobble sound. I suppose it doesn't have to sound like that to be filthy, but more distortion and it would sound wicked.

Assuming you're using fruityloops, you can make an effective wobble bass using an osc3 or wasp, with a fruityfilter and your choice of fastdist or overdrive or both, make sure the filter is before the distortion in the chain of effects, if you want to tweak the sound more put another filter after that effect chain also, and control the frequency of the mid band eq on the mixer. Use a limiter to avoid clipping when you using mass ammounts of distortion. For an extra touch, add a very very tiny hint of reverb or short delay before the distortion in the effects chain.
